CAMP EBERHART STAFF NAMED

The summer program for boys at Camp Eberhart, operated by the South Bend YMCA at Corey Lake, about eight miles west of Three Rivers, Mich., will take place this year from June 30 through Aug. 14.

George A. Cooper, long-time YMCA physical director, will serve as camp director for the 43rd consecutive year. James Smith, physical director at the Mishawaka YMCA, will be program director.

The camp will consist of four two week periods. Boys 8 to 16 years old can enroll for from one to all four of the periods. The cost is $27 a week for boys from St. Joseph County and $37 for those residing outside the county.

Mrs. Forrest West and Mrs. Mary Emerick, both of South Bend, will be in charge of the craft program. College Students on Staff.

Almost all of the staff members and counselors are college students who have received training in counseling at Camp Eberhart. Staff members for the various activities and thier colleges are: Swimming-James Gold, Jr., Western Michigan University; John Wolf, MacMurray Coolege; Marc Carmichael, Indiana University, and Richad Shore, Upper Iowa University. All are from South Bend.

Sailing-Steve Clouse, of Wilmette, Ill., Hanover College. Archery-Baillie Dunlap, South Bend, Wooster College of Ohio, and Gerard Kendzior, Franklin, Pa., Washington & Jefferson College. Riflery-Frank E. Millar II, South Bend, Wabash College. Boats and Canoes-Kalvin Waxman, South Bend, South Bend-Mishawaka Campus of Indiana University and James Engle, Long Island, N.Y., Menlo College, Menlo Park, Calif.

On Woodcraft Staff

Woodcraft-Carl Solander, Chicago, International School of America. Astronomy, campfires and chapel-Tom Carmichael, South Bend, Indiana University. Water skiing-Miss Meredith E. Stewart, South Bend, Indiana University. Riding-George Luke, Michawaka, Purdue University, and John West, South Bend, also a Purdeue student and a member of the Purdue Mounted Drill Team. Nurses-Miss Ann Roden, South Bend, University of Michigan School of Nursing, and Miss Margaret Wild, South Bend, Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Indiana Univeristy. Business and store keeper-Miss Mary Wiseman, South Bend, Ball State Teachers College.

Alan Solander, Chicago, Cornell Unviersity will be junior camp director.

Luke will be director of counselors in training group. Boys 14 years and older are eligible for this group. They are scheduled part time on a program to improve their skills and part time as assistants on various programs designed to improve their teaching techniques. Juior counselors are selected from this group. Later the are eligible for counselor and staff positions.

In the future, according to camp officials, most of the staff and counselor positions will be filled from this group.

Opportunity for Training

Junior counselors, counselors and staff members who demonstrate leadership qualities will have an opportunity to obtian further training at various short term schools, according to YMCA officials.

Two of the staff members for this year, Wolf and Carmichael, attended the Red Cross Swimming and Life Saving School at Camp Limberlost near LaGrange last summer.

Of the present staff members, Clouse attended the small craft school at Culver and Dunlap attended the Michigan State Univeristy archery school. Also last year, Lee Obenchain, Kenneth Emerick, Miss Barbara Sollit and Terry Lahey, all of South Bend, attended teh small bore rifle school at Camp Perry, Ohio. Cooper said another group is expected to attend that school this year.

Twenty-four youths of high school age, all trained in counseling at Eberhart in past summers, will serve as junior counselors and assistants to the staff and counselors.
