Where are
they now?
You may be wondering what has happened to one of your favorite camp horses.
Horses need to find new homes for many reasons. Sometimes they don’t like
being ridden by lots of different people. Sometimes they have minor physical
problems that cause them pain when they work this hard, or sometimes they are
just tired of doing this job and are ready for some one-on-one TLC. When these
things come up, we try to place our beloved horses with student or camper families
who promise to give them loving homes for the rest of their lives. Here are
some examples:
Where
is Sage? Sage is living in Constantine and is being trained
to be best friends with a young girl. She's a smart and friendly horse, and
is learning quickly.
Where
is China? China has returned home to be spoiled by mom Linda.
Where
is Satin? Satin has moved into a big family, full of horses
and kids. She loves her job as trail riding buddy for the mom to this brood.
Where is Zoe? Zoe was a fixture at Camp for
many years, but she had started to look a little depressed and tired. Last fall
she went to live with 2 young girls, who enjoy letting her run to her heart’s
content. She has a huge pasture of grass that she only has to share with 1 other
horse. She’s in heaven.
Where is Cody? With Zoe and the 2 young girls
who love them. Cody enjoys being ridden by the girls and their dad, and works
much better in this situation.
Where is Donovan? Our former Vaulting Coach,
Jackie, and her mom Carole, fell in love with Donovan. They have a wonderful
big barn and lots of time to spend, so we let Donovan go live there. Jackie
is training him to be a canter vaulting horse.
Where is CJ? Right down the road, being a spoiled
“only horse” for former student Valerie and her mom.
Where is Joey? Joey was a little too much horse
for many of our camp students, but he just loves his new home with Jessica.
She takes him to 4-H workouts, shows, and on lots of trail rides.
Where is Lily? Lily didn’t
get enough work around here because of her small size, and she was getting fat
and lazy. She went to live with a family of 5 little girls. She gets ridden
everyday, and isn’t fat anymore. Well, she was fat this spring, but that’s
because she had a baby!
Where is Flash? School horses have to be very
well-trained and secure. Flash was pretty green. He had a lot of things to learn
and got scared pretty easily. He went to live with a lady who really enjoys
training. Arabians are her favorite breed, and she loves everything about Flash,
from his friendly personality to his gorgeous face.
Where is Zeke? AKA Hesekiah’s Treasure;
Zeke was born here in 1998. He grew into a gorgeous, hunter-type horse. In 2003
he went to live with Equestrian Counselor Sarah Waxman in Kansas. Sarah has
started to compete with him at Hunter Shows, and so far has always placed! Zeke
and Sarah come back to Michigan for a long visit every summer.
Did we miss anyone that you are wondering about? If we did, email Julia. By the way, we are always looking for donations of healthy, well-trained, beginner-safe horses between the ages of 5 and 15. We promise to provide a great home and lots of attention.
